OKLAHOMA CITY -- The body of an Oklahoma City man was discovered inside his home after he allegedly shot himself in the head, authorities said.

Police evacuated part of an inner northwest Oklahoma City neighborhood Friday afternoon after receiving a report of an agitated man with a gun threatening to harm himself.

Officers received the call Friday morning of shots fired at 1132 N Woodward Avenue off NW 11 Street and Independence Avenue. The houses directly surrounding the suspect's home were evacuated for a few hours.

Neighbors were scared, and said the scene was very chaotic.

"As officers were trying to communicate with this individual, he stepped out onto the front porch and discharged that weapon several times, not necessarily in the direction of an officer and them retreated back into the house," Oklahoma City Police Capt. Steve McCool said.

No one was hurt when shots were fired, police said.

A police tactical team was on the scene to assess the situation. They tried to make contact with the man multiple times, but were ultimately unsuccessful.
