NORMAN, Okla. - A high pressure natural gas line broke east of Tecumseh Road between 36 and 48 Avenues in northwest Norman late Thursday morning.

The Norman Fire Department said a construction company was working on a project  when they hit the 12 inch gas pipeline. The area was evacuated, but roads have been reopened.

The gas pipeline has been shut and OGN crews are on the scene working to fix the problem.

Traffic was being blocked between Rock Creek Road, 48 Avenue, Tecumseh Road and 36 Avenue.

Roosevelt Elementary School, located on Tecumseh between 36 and 48, is near the gas leak, but no natural gas was detected near the school. Students were kept inside, but the school allowed parents to pick up their children. Parents could only approach the school from the east. No traffic was allowed west of the school.
