Ponca City student reports affair with teacher

PONCA CITY, Okla. -- A Ponca City middle school student claimed he had a sexual relationship with a 26-year-old math teacher.

Ashley Flores was charged with a felony of second-degree rape and oral sodomy.

"We are shocked and saddened by these allegations," Ponca City Schools Superintendent Dr. David Pennington said. "We have a lot of great teachers who do a great job every day. This hurts the reputation of all of us."

Flores had been with the Ponca City school district since August 2005. She resigned in July, around the same time of her alleged relationship with a 14-year-old student, but school officials said they learned of the reported relationship recently.

"We did not find out about this until the investigation had started and was probably completed," Pennington said.

The student was in Flores' remedial math class at East Junior High School.

In an affidavit, the student claimed he and Flores had a month-long sexual relationship.

During that time they engaged in intercourse six to eight times, which allegedly took place in his teacher's bed, a floor of her house, in her parents' swimming pool and in the backseat of her car, according to the affidavit.

The student also claimed they performed oral sodomy on one another.

"The victim's family and he came to the police department and made us aware of these inappropriate acts," said Sherry Bowers of the Ponca City Police Department. "We investigated those from there."

Flores was booked into the Kay County jail Wednesday and posted a $25,000 bond. Her next court appearance will be in January.

Flores and her attorney declined to comment about the charges.
