NORMAN, Okla. -- Football is a game of numbers. On the eve of their game against Texas Christian University, the number two ranked OU Sooners find they have an opportunity to climb to the number one position in the BCS rankings.

Although the team remains mute on the issue, many fans have chimed in.

It's been several years since OU held the coveted position in college football, but after the University of Southern California's loss Thursday night to the Oregon State Beavers, Sooner fans said they'll settle with nothing less than number one.

"OU is the most dominant team right now," Rick Parker of the Barbery said. "They should be the number one team."

Toby Wilmot, another OU fan, said he knows the inconsistency of the polls.

"The way the polls are now-a-days, it goes week to week," Wilmot said. "If you're impressive, you get to move up, if you're not, somebody else leapfrogs you."

OU's next opponent, the TCU Horned Frogs, continue to focus on their skilled defense in an attempt to beat the Sooners and spoil OU's hopes of holding the number one position.

"We're really excited and the fans are really rowdy," TCU student Meridith Mahoney said. "So get excited. Get ready OU."

Mary Walkup, a TCU student, said the matchup will be a good game.

"The football players are all really excited," Walkup said. "They think they have a good chance."

Although both teams are reportedly excited for Saturday's game, no official number one position has been announced.

"I know we're going to be number one," OU student Francisco Simao said. "That's all I know. This upcoming game we're going to be number one."

The Sooners face TCU Saturday at six p.m. at Owen Field and will be broadcast on FSN, Cox channel 37.
