As of 11 a.m. Oklahoma time, rain will continue in the forecast for Oklahoma through Sunday. It will not be continuous but keep in mind a flash flood watch continues through Sunday.

Ike is still 540 miles ESE of Galveston and is not too strong. The pressure is, however, very low but the 200 millibar wind flow at this moment, is not the classic configuration for a super hurricane. That could change in the next 24 hours.

It still appears that Galveston and Houston will be in the most dangerous quadrant of the storm with respect to wind and water. Where the storm center comes ashore and 30 miles to the northeast of that location, the storm surge will be from 10 to 20 feet above sea level. If you combine that with sustained winds of at least 100 mph you have a deadly and dangerous combination.

If Ike moves from the Houston area to Interstate 35 near Dallas, flooding tropical rains will spread across parts of Oklahoma. However, we will not know the exact Oklahoma track until Ike changes from a WNW to NW to North movement. If Ike moves into Oklahoma, small tornadoes will be possible.

Stay tuned!
