Devon evacuates employees near Gulf

Devon officials said Tuesday that as a result of Hurricane Ike they are evacuating employees from its two deep water drilling rigs and 25 production rigs in the Gulf Coast by the end of the day.

Devon officials said Tuesday that as a result of Hurricane Ike they are evacuating employees from its two deep water drilling rigs and 25 production rigs in the Gulf Coast by the end of the day.

A total of about 200 workers are being evacuated, according to Devon Public Information Officer Chip Minty.

The rigs are located about 150 miles from the Louisiana coast. The production rigs are located on the Continental Shelf within 75 miles of the Louisiana coast.
