LAWTON, Okla. -- A Comanche County judge has sentenced a Lawton man to life in prison with the possibility of parole after he pleaded guilty to fatally shooting his girlfriend.

District Judge Gerald Neuwirth's punishment came after Michael D. Perkins pleaded guilty Monday to one count of first-degree murder in the March 2007 shooting death of Krystal Marie Woods.

One of Woods' sons discovered her bullet-riddled body at their east Lawton residence. The son testified at a preliminary hearing that his infant brother was lying on the floor in the same room with his dead mother, who was 24.

Perkins fled to Oklahoma City but returned a day after the shooting and surrendered to authorities.

Jail records show Perkins remains in the Comanche County Detention Center.
