SHAWNEE, Okla. - William Mathis has been fired after two years as Shawnee police chief, according to Mayor Chuck Mills.

Mathis was not given a severance package, Mills said.

The official reason for Mathis' termination has not been released.

Mathis did not comment on his firing and neither did police union president Ken King.

Shawnee Police Lt. Russell Frantz will serve as interim chief, Mills said.
