TULSA, Okla. -- Cody Wilson's high school football career has been short and sweet. After five games and a fractured foot, he was done for the 2007 season.

"It was tough sitting on the sidelines watching everybody else play," said Cody Wilson, Lincoln Christian Linebacker.

Five games: That's also how long it took Wilson to get a Division-I scholarship.

"It's just funny how things work out," Wilson said. "I never would have thought it two years ago."

That's because Wilson had hoop dreams before he realized he had a football future.

"If I was writing out my life that's not how it would be," Wilson said. "I couldn't really script that out any better."

After giving up basketball and joining the Lincoln Christian football team, all it took was those five games for the University of Tulsa to offer a scholarship.

"Thankfully I fought through the pain and I got enough film to send out to coaches and get recruited a little bit," Wilson said. "TU offered and I just fell in love with the school."

Now 100 percent healthy, Wilson and the Bulldogs will have a chance to play for a state championship. Lincoln Christian was an independent school until its football team became a part of the OSSAA this season.

"I'm happy for the kids," said Lincoln Christian football coach. "For them to come out and experience it for the first time and understand what this is all about is definitely going to be fun for them."

"There's nothing like Friday night, high school football Oklahoma-wide in the OSSAA," Wilson said.
