TULSA, Okla. -- Their hopes and dreams are the same as other teams, but Cascia Hall's bid for a gold ball has double meaning.

"We've won three state championships and have failed to repeat and that's kind of been the theme for this season," said Cascia Hall football coach Joe Medina. "We want to be the first team to repeat and we'd probably go down as one of the best teams in Cascia history."

When your quarterback's last name is Clancy, rewriting the history books shouldn't be a problem. Sam Clancy led the Commandoes to the 2A state title last season and thinks twice would be nice.

"We want to be the first, we want to be the best team in Cascia Hall history," Clancy said. "Our coaches aren't letting us forget that. That's their goal, that's our goal and they're pushing us real hard."

The senior tossed 13 touchdowns and only one interception last season. Now the traditional drop back and play action passer is adding his legs into the equation.

"This year I've been starting to run out of the pocket more," Clancy said. "I think I've gotten better over the summer, gained some weight and put on some speed. I think that's been real helpful."

Behind Clancy and a bevy of other weapons, the Commandoes make the transition back to 3A this season.

"I mean there's nothing better going out and winning," said senior cornerback Fritz Blue. "Especially going up to 3A and proving we can play with the big boys."
