Showers and storms ahead for Oklahoma

Posted: Updated:

By News 9 Meteorologist Nick Bender

Significantly cooler temperatures and wetter conditions are expected this weekend across the state; a big change from last weekend. A ridge of high pressure sprawling out over the western US, and a trough of low pressure sagging south across the Great Lakes and Northeast will place Oklahoma in a upper-level flow favorable for bouts of showers and thunderstorms over the next several days, especially southern Oklahoma along the Red River Valley.

Along with the chance of rain, temperatures will remain at or slightly below average this weekend into the beginning part of the upcoming workweek. Increased cloud cover and northerly winds will promote relatively cool daytime highs in the low to mid 80s across northern Oklahoma, while hot conditions will still prevail across southwestern Oklahoma through Sunday; temperatures will top-out in the mid to upper 90s. Central Oklahoma will break about even with highs in the upper 80s to low 90s.

The clouds will begin to roll back Tuesday and Wednesday, paving the way for more sunshine and a return to warm conditions.
