The talk in our newsroom this past week has probably mirrored conversations held by citizens across our metro. We're stunned at the number of shootings and murders that have plagued out communities and without reason.
The police seem to think it's all gang related or they just blame it on the heat. Others say that's just life in the big city. I think everybody is on edge now.
Earlier today we heard there was a report of shots fired inside of a local mall.
Of course, it turned out to be a ‘false alarm', but I can't help but to think that at any other time of the year, our first thought would have been "ha, somebody is pulling a prank", but with the recent rash of violent crimes we took it very serious and took off as quickly as we could to the mall.
Again - just a false alarm, but with the way things are going lately, I wouldn't be too surprised if something like this does eventually happen here.
