Oklahoma student receives big award

An Okahoma eighth grader received the 10 thousand dollar Doris Fisher Award at a ceremony in San Antonio honoring excellence in teaching and learning Thursday night.

OKLAHOMA CITY -- An Okahoma eighth grader received the 10 thousand dollar Doris Fisher Award at a ceremony in San Antonio honoring excellence in teaching and learning Thursday night.

Annetta O'Leru is a student at KIPP, which stands for knowledge is power program.

She said the money will be used to further her education.

O'Leru was honored for her accomplishments in overcoming challenges and excelling in academics, leadership, and character.

She has already received a full ride scholarship worth $40,000 to attend a boarding school in Rhode Island next year.
