NORMAN, Okla. - University of Oklahoma defensive end Auston English is out indefinitely after having his appendix removed.
OU spokesman Kenny Mossman said English had emergency surgery last weekend in Norman and is expected to fully recover.
Mossman said he doesn't know when English will start practice but says he expects him to play in the season opener Aug. 30 against Tennessee-Chattanooga.
English was named preseason Big 12 defensive player of the year last week and is on the watch list for the Ted Hendricks Award given to the nation's top defensive end.
He was All-Big 12 last season after leading the conference with 9.5 quarterback sacks despite missing more than three games because of a broken bone in his leg.
