McCain camp's media fun

WASHINGTON -- For journalists arriving in Pittson, Pennsylvania last night to cover a John McCain event, picking up their press passes must have been a hoot. McCain aides made up fake passes with a picture of the Statue of Liberty and fireworks in the background. Below the image it says, "McCain Press Corps. JV Squad. Left Behind to Report in America." On the back is the Eiffel Tower and a man wearing a beret pouring a glass of wine saying the same thing in French. It's not the only jab the McCain is aiming at the news media.

The three broadcast network anchors are traveling with a huge press corps, taking turns interviewing Obama as he makes his way on a seven nation tour including Afghanistan, Iraq, Jordan, Israel, and Germany, France and Great Britain. That's tough competition for McCain. But instead of publicly criticizing news coverage of his rival, it looks like McCain is using a different strategy. Humor.

McCain told CNN's John Roberts, "I'm a big boy, I'm enjoying every minute of the campaigning. I'm not complaining, in fact I think its fun to watch."  Speaking of fun to watch, cue the new video on McCain's campaign website. Titled, "Obama Love," excerpts of various reporters and anchors gushing over Obama are strung together while Frankie Valli's "Can't Take My Eyes Off You" plays in the background. McCain's campaign hopes the video catches on and makes a point, without the candidate himself having to do it.
