OKLAHOMA CITY - A teenager who was shot by a police officer this weekend died Tuesday afternoon.

Daryl Ray Wilson, 18, was shot Saturday night at a northwest Oklahoma City apartment complex.

Wilson was shot in the head by Officer Grant Brooks, police said.

Brooks was patrolling when heard shots fired at the Twin Lakes Apartment complex in the 6200 block of NW 63, Capt. Steve McCool said.

Police said when the officer arrived Wilson was backing up his car away from the scene and accelerated when Brooks tried to stop him. Wilson ended up crashing into another vehicle and Brooks ordered the teenager out of the car, McCool said.

"At the time when he came out of that car and he came up, there was a vehicle that was between the officer and Mr. Wilson," McCool said. "In the mind of the officer at the time, when he saw Wilson coming up with his hand he believed he was threatened at that point and that's when he discharged his weapon."

Police said they did find a gun in the car, but not in the teen's hand.

A fund has been created to help the family of Darrell Ray Wilson with funeral expenses. The fund is at BancFirst. Donations should be made to the account: "For The Benefit of Darrell Ray Wilson" at 273-1000 or 270-1000.

The family said donations may also be made at any Arvest Bank.
