Body found in Norman swimming pool identified

A body that was found Monday morning at the bottom of an apartment complex swimming pool in east Norman has been identified as Mahmut Gokmen, police said.

NORMAN, Okla. -- A body that was found Monday morning at the bottom of an apartment complex swimming pool in east Norman has been identified as Mahmut Gokmen, police said.

The 27-year-old was found by a maintenance worker at the Summer Pointe Apartments, 1149 E Brooks St. The maintenance worker called police shortly before 8:00 a.m. to report the discovery, Captain Leonard Judy said.

Officers said they tentatively identified Gokmen as a resident of the complex.

Judy said police still are investigating the death, but initially did not find any signs of foul play.

Police think Gokmen may have drowned while swimming because he was wearing a bathing suit, Judy said.
