Boy scouts pitched in to restore an elementary classroom that was wrecked by vandals earlier this week.

Vandals destroyed a classroom at Britton Elementary School causing thousands of dollars in damage, Building Mechanic Michael Stills said.

"They let off fire extinguishers; they emptied every bottle of paint here," Stills said.

The vandals also stole a computer and a CD player.

Scouter Del Wilburn decided the boy scouts could help out after seeing the damage.

"This is what our scouts do, is to assess and react," Wilburn said.

The scouts painted over the marks that once tainted this room.

"It makes me feel really good to know that I can help with something that needs to be helped with," Scout Ryan Burnham said.

Stills said he's grateful for the help.

"I was thrilled," he said. "It would help get me back on the schedule, and I got two other, three other schools to take care of. I'm behind schedule now.

Even with the scout's help, officials are scrambling to get things in working order by the fall semester.
