It's a new day at Tulsa's Gilcrease Museum. The University of Tulsa is now managing the collection. As News On 6's Rick Wells reports, it now includes the largest known collection of memorabilia of the famed 101 Ranch and its Wild West Show.

A big crowd came out for the opening of the newest addition to the Gilcrease Museum permanent collection: 101 Ranch, The Real Wild West.

"They had the largest diversified farm and ranch in the world. They raised different kinds of crops and had an oil business going," said Randy Ramer with the Gilcrease Museum.

The ranch also put together a large traveling Wild West show and much of the exhibit is devoted to historical memorabilia and photographs from the show.

"We wanted to bring some of the real characters into the space. So, you can get a sense of what they looked like," said Ramer.

Lucy Mullhall, Tom Mix, Princess Winona and Bill Pickett all worked on the ranch and became famous in the Wild West Show.

Here's the answer to a question we heard a lot of people asking: is the ranch one-oh-one or one hundred and one?

"The old timers prefer hundred and one," said Ramer.

This marked the official beginning of the city's agreement with the University of Tulsa to have TU manage the museum. So, there were plenty of dignitaries on hand.

Not far away, kids were celebrating by making bandanas.

It's fitting that the home of the largest collection of western art and artifacts would now also be home of the largest known collection of memorabilia and artifacts from the famed 101 Ranch.

A new admission policy begins on Tuesday as well. It'll now cost $8 for adults. Children 18 and under get in free. There are discounts for seniors, active military and college students.

The Gilcrease Museum also has new hours. It will now be open Tuesday through Sunday and on all holidays except Christmas Day.
