EDMOND, Okla. -- Fired up for July Fourth, a group of metro high school students are headed to our nation's capitol.

The Edmond North marching band is off to Washington, D.C. to play the Independence Day Parade.

As they file out of the music room, the Edmond North Husky Band is getting ready to leave on their trip.

"I'm super excited," drum major Alexa Berlemann said. "It's going to be a great trip."

Berlemann says they're heading out to play in the Independence Day Parade. Although the musicians go on a music tour to a different city every year, she feels, the chance to play in the biggest Fourth of July celebration in the country, is an honor.

"We've been to California, Chicago, St. Louis and Dallas a couple times," Berlemann said.

Playing in the parade is an opportunity they've earned after hours and hours of practice time. They're talent is what got them the gig. They'll be performing the state anthem, "Oklahoma."

"We were recommended by Dr. Joseph Missel from OSU, the band director," Edmond North Band Director Steve Fry said. "They called us and asked if we'd like to participate. We said ‘yes.'"

After they make the 24 hour drive cross country, they should be ready to get out of that bus, and celebrate the Fourth of July.
