Say goodbye to spring, and hello to summer! High pressure situated over portions of West Texas, New Mexico, and Arizona will gradually begin the move east into the Central and Southern Plains. High temperatures this week will climb into the lower 90s to near 100 degrees with generally sunny afternoon skies. Thunderstorm chances will diminish, as the high sets up shop over the southern US and northern Mexico, to less than 20% during the middle part of the upcoming workweek. The best chances for overnight storms will be across northern Oklahoma, where a few storms may be severe; hail and gusty winds being the primary threats.

Remember, now that we are into the summer months, and the sun is at a relatively high angle, precautions must be taken to reduce sun exposure. On days when the UV Index is a 10 or higher, damaged can be done to exposed skin in as little as 15 minutes. Take preemptive measures to reduce the risk of sunburn and skin damage by applying a sunscreen of at least SPF 15 periodically throughout the day, avoid being outdoors from the hours of 10AM-4PM, and wear protective clothing. You can still have fun in the sun, just be safe about it!
