Woman struck and killed on I-40

MIDWEST CITY, OKLA. -- A 49-year-old woman was killed last night while walking in the eastbound lanes on Interstate 40, Oklahoma Highway Patrol troopers said.

Authorities said Esther McKinley was walking on I-40 near Douglas Blvd in Midwest City when she stepped off from the south side shoulder and into oncoming traffic. She was struck by a 2003 Hyundai Elantra at around 11:09 p.m. and died at the scene.

No one was arrested for the collision, troopers said and there was no reason they could give as to why McKinley stepped out into traffic.
