AC maintenance could save money, energy

Making sure your air conditioning unit is clear of clutter and dirt could save you money this summer, experts said.

For about $100 you can get a yearly maintenance check to make sure your unit is in good shape, Repairman Robbie Wess said.

"I mean 80 percent of failures is due to neglect and not being clean," Wess said. "Get your Freon changed. Check the units for electrical problems before they happen and it'll save you a whole lot of grief.

Wess said proper maintenance could save about $30-40 a month.

Annette Smith said that's money she could use to cope with increasing gas and food prices.

"I called them out to come and fix it because it's coming Summer time," Smith said. "Who wants to be in the heat, which is where I am right now."
