TULSA, Okla. (AP) - At least 44,000 customers are without power in the Tulsa area after severe storms pounded northeast Oklahoma early this morning.

Emergency officials reported at least five people were injured, including a woman and a young girl who were hurt when their car hydroplaned and overturned on a Sand Springs highway.

Emergency Medical Services Authority spokeswoman Tina Wells says a chronically ill woman was taken to a hospital after power outages rendered her medical equipment useless.

Two other people were injured clearing downed tree limbs, including a 55-year-old man who was shocked while using a chain saw.

Public Service Company of Oklahoma says they hope to have power restored to all but 15,000 customers by tonight, but spokeswoman Andrea Chancellor says it could be late Tuesday before power is restored to all customers.
