DEPEW, Okla. -- Nestled in the hills near Depew is Oklahoma's only clothing-optional recreational park.

Since 1992, Oaklake Trails has offered individuals and families a safe place to shed their clothes along with the everyday stresses of life, according to founders Brenda and Gary Spangler, who discovered being nude just came naturally.

"We started out as just something we decided we would try, being nude around the house," Brenda Spangler said. "It's like anything else, once you get comfortable doing one thing, you think, 'Gosh, I wonder if there's other folks that would like to do something like this?'"

Most people are surprised by what kind of people come to the resort, Gary Spangler said. "We are school teachers and nurses and lawyers and firefighters and airline pilots and military and doctors. Just a cross-section of America."

Activities include swimming, volleyball and shuffleboard. "We also annually have a 5K run, " Gary Spangler said. "We have runners from all over the country. Last year, we had a man from Paris, Texas, and a man from Paris, France."

The resort describes itself as "family friendly," and background checks are performed on all visitors, Gary Spangler said. Anyone with a sexual offense history is not permitted on the grounds, he said.

Everyone within the community encourages people to give the park a try. You don't even have to pack any clothes.

"It's very, very comfortable," Gary Spangler said. "The freedom involved is just something you have to experience to really understand."
