After hiring a handyman to repair their roof, Carol and Mohammad Malik said they were left with uneven shingles and a separated roof line.

"He'll say he can fix it, but we say he doesn't have the ability to fix it. We don't know what to do," Carol said.

The handyman, James Butts, said his workers were responsible for the poor job, and that he took action by firing them. Butts offered to fix the roof and give the Maliks their labor costs back. The couple said they don't have the money to buy more materials and they don't trust Butts can get the job done right.

"We're afraid he'll waste more material and it'll cost more money," Carol said.

After Consumer Watch's Amanda Taylor consulted Metro Roofing for an evaluation of Butts' work, the company offered to redo the Maliks' roof for free.

Cliff and Diane Stockton of NW Building Supply also donated all the material needed for the repairs.
