The death of two men involved in a car crash is being felt throughout their circle of friends and family. The men, part of a Firstep program, lived with about 85 other men whose main focus is overcoming drug addiction. Richard Hutton, the Executive Director of the Oklahoma City Metro Alliance, said the crash has had an effect on everyone.

"It's a tight knit group," Hutton said. "This affects everybody, not just the ones that are in that car, but everybody."

The men still living at the center are somebody's husband, father and son, fighting the battle against drug and alcohol addiction in the Firstep recovery center.

"They're trying to better their lives and you have to admire that," Hutton said.

The recovering men are required to work as part of their road to recovery, but for a dozen men, the early morning drive to work ended in tragedy after an SUV smashed into their van in a southeast Oklahoma City neighborhood.

Two of the men died after being ejected from the van, while six others were injured.

"We'll stop and pay our respects and love everybody," Hutton said. "We'll keep doing what we do, life goes on."

During the time of grief, crisis counselors will visit the center to help the men cope with the loss of their friends.
