Residents of Oklahoma County will be voting tomorrow on a bond proposal that could allow Tinker Air Force Base to use the defunct General Motors assembly plant.

If the measure passes, the county would buy the plant for $55 million and lease it to Tinker.  Opponents said the federal government should be buying the building.

"The Tinker deal is just backwards.  They want the taxpayers to pay $54 million for a project that should have been paid for by the Congress," said Rep. Richard Morrissette, (D-District 92).

Supporters argue the plant is worth the price tag, claiming it would add to Oklahoma County's tax base.

"This will allow us to put additional people in there. It will restore some tax base and actually exceed the tax base that it is currently generating," Oklahoma County Commissioner Ray Vaughn said.
