KELLYVILLE, Texas (AP) - A Department of Public Safety trooper pursuing a vehicle was shot and killed tonight in Marion County in East Texas.

DPS spokeswoman Tela Mange said the shooting occurred just before 8 p.m. near the intersection of Farm-to-Market roads 1969 and 729. That's just northeast of Lake O' The Pines and west of Kellyville.

Mange said a citizen got on the trooper's radio and called in to the dispatcher that the man had been shot. Authorities are looking for a 1997 blue Dodge Intrepid with Texas license 039-LCG. Oklahoma Highway Patrol troopers told NEWS 9 they do not think the suspect will head to Oklahoma.

Mange said the trooper was 39 and married. His name was not immediately released pending notification of family members.

Kellyville is about 135 miles east of Dallas.
