A winter storm is moving through the north-central U.S. Friday and Saturday, and could dump up to a foot of snow in northern Minnesota.

Snow fell from southern Nebraska through South and North Dakotas Friday morning, with rain and a wintry mix falling in Minnesota.

This strong upper-level storm system causing the winter weather is the same system that produced severe weather and tornadoes from Kansas to Texas Wednesday and Thursday.

A Winter Storm Warning is in effect for much of northern Minnesota from Friday early afternoon through Saturday.  Widespread six to twelve inches of snow accumulation is possible by Saturday evening.

Travel Advisories are in effect for the eastern Dakotas and northeast Nebraska, where three to five inches of snow and sleet accumulation are possible.
