The police officer and man involved in a fatal shooting at a Days Inn in northeast Oklahoma City have been identified.

Master Sgt. Gary Carter, a 24-year veteran of the police department, shot and killed 25-year-old Adam Skeith at the Days Inn & Suites Motel at 12013 N. Interstate Service Rd. on Tuesday.

Carter saw a black Lincoln Navigator that resembled one used in a bank robbery on April 9 parked at the hotel and contacted robbery investigators. While waiting for the investigators to arrive, Carter saw Skeith leave his room and approach the car.

Skeith quickly went back to his room and appeared again in different clothes. Carter decided to confront him. Once confronted, the suspect drew a handgun from a concealed holster on his side and turned it towards the officer.

Carter shot Skeith multiple times. Skeith was transported to a local hospital and was pronounced dead upon arrival.

Investigators also believe Skeith was responsible for a second robbery, on March 14, at the Bank of Oklahoma on 9225 N. May Ave.

Carter has been placed on routine administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation.
