I love my job.
However, today I really loved my job!
Shortly before 2:00 today one of our producers got a tip that Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie had arrived at the airport in Shawnee. I never knew this, but Brad was born in Shawnee and often visits relatives who still live there. This time we were told baby mama Angelina was in tow along with the babies.
Of course, being the TMZ-wanna-be reporter I am, I jumped up and grabbed the nearest photographer and told the producers I wanted to go track the A-list couple down.
I knew it was going to be a challenge. I've only been to Shawnee once and I don't have any connections in the small Pottawatomie County. Thankfully, one of our producers at KOTV (our sister station in Tulsa) is from Shawnee and was able to put me in touch with his mother who works out of a daycare center.
She was able to put me in touch with several people and students who were able to snap some photos of the couple hanging out at Brad's grandmother's home and later boarding the plane to destination unknown.
It was very obvious the Hollywood hotties were hoping to keep their visit top secret.
I called the airport and a man who answered the phone said he was "not at liberty to say" if the couple was in town. I then asked for the address to the airport and he said, "I don't want to give you that either." I simply rolled my eyes.
I called the Mayor who said he was clueless about the visit.
I talked with a woman in the police chief's office who said they were never notified about the visit. Funny - because when we arrived in the now famous neighborhood we found several Shawnee police cars still roaming the area long after the couple was gone.
Thankfully I was able to pull a story together by using exclusive SkyNews 9 video of the jet taking off from the airport and photos that were taken by private citizens.
Now I'm debating on turning the photos over to TMZ and making a few hundred dollars.
