Oklahoma City is on a diet and now the 18,000 people signed up for the mayor's weight loss program have passed a big milestone.

So far the city has lost 54,000 pounds, which is 27 tons. The goal for the city is to lose one million pounds, and they've been keeping track through the Web site thiscityisgoingonadiet.com. The site gives access to information on nutrition and losing weight. It's gained national attention.

The mayor even appeared on the Ellen show.

"I think what the national media has seen with this initiative is that although obesity is a problem everywhere, Oklahoma City is doing something about it," Mayor Cornett said.
