After a string of storms last weekend, homeowners in Northwest Oklahoma City are on the road to repair.

Local contractors warn Oklahomans to beware of out-of-state scammers looking to make a quick buck.

"We had two calls yesterday and three today from out of state contractors wanting to come in," said Neil Cagle of All American Roofing. "They wanted to purchase our company or work out a license agreement to work under our name."

Cagle warned these companies often want to work under a local name to build their clientele. Once the money is collected, and the initial work is complete, these contractors leave town, said Cagle.

After the contractor leaves town, homeowners find themselves without a credible warranty, said Cagle.

When work that would normally be covered under warranty is needed, the businesses cannot be contacted. Cagle said victims usually end up paying out of their own pockets for substandard work.

Cagle suggested collecting references and making sure a contractor is really local.

You can also check the credibility of a business by looking at the Better Business Bureau.
