The National Weather Service was not able to immediately confirm the tornadoes.

"A lot of what occurred was when it was dark and we haven't had any opportunity to confirm the damage reports as being caused by tornadoes," said weather service meteorologist Kenny James in Norman.

Oklahoma Gas & Electric reported 3,255 power outages Monday morning, 2,233 of those in Edmond where dozens of power poles were toppled by the winds.

Glencoe Schools were closed Monday because of the power outages.

Thunderstorm warnings remained in effect for parts of northeastern Oklahoma with nickel-sized hail and winds of up to 60 mph being reported, according to the weather service, and there is chance for more severe weather later Monday.

"The eastern two-thirds of the state will be under a risk for severe storms again today, perhaps as early as midmorning, but more likely this afternoon," James said.

"I think were looking at today, more typical hail and wind which is most common with severe storms west of Interstate 35.

"As we get east of I-35 we could see more organized storm activity that could lead to tornadic activity."
