On Wednesday I blogged about the negative attention Sally Kern's comments are bringing to Oklahoma.

Today, the news is literally bigger and better.

I opened my copy of The Oklahoman newspaper today and the headline brought a big smile to my face.

"REACHING NEW HEIGHTS"

Devon Energy has announced it is moving forward with plans to build what will soon be the city's tallest building.  Right now the Chase Tower is our tallest at 500 feet and it was built in 1971.

I'm excited because I'm one of those people who judge a city by its skyline.   I think it's a sign of how progressive the city is, and while Oklahoma City has a decent one, I've said several times in the past year how exciting it would be add just one or two more skyscrapers to our existing ones.   Big skyline = big city, and I don't think this could have come at a better time.

With the renovations at the Ford Center, a new I-40 Crosstown in the works, the possibility of an NBA team on the way and now a tower that will tower above the rest, I think Oklahoma City is on its way to attracting more than just those who are passing through.  I see this great city turning into a destination city more and more everyday, and the great goal would be for those tourists to look into their rearview mirrors as they drive away and say "we'll be back soon.  Very soon."

Big thanks to Devon for their role in making that happen.
