Gas prices soar

Posted: Updated:

By now everyone's noticed the recent hike in gas prices.

According to AAA, the average price per gallon here in the metro is $3.06 a gallon. That's actually a dime below the national average.

The prices are a direct reflection of record oil prices.

Crude oil closed at a record high Thursday at more than $102 per barrel. That is a $3 gain from Wednesday.

Industry experts in Oklahoma say supply problems due to violence in Nigeria are driving prices higher. They also attribute the hike to changes in the U.S. economy.

The Federal Reserve cutting interest rates and the tax rebate millions of Americans will soon get could potentially give Americans more disposable income, and increase demand for fuel.
