A Major County teenager is in custody. He's accused of making several pipe bombs and bringing one to a Fairview school campus.

Police searched the 17-year old boy's home early Friday morning and found a number of active pipe bombs under the boy's bed and several more he was in the process of making.

The boy says it was part of a science project.

"It's very difficult to believe that was a science project," Chief Robert Banks, Fairview Police Dept. said. "However, there is no evidence of any threats made or any evidence he was going to use those against any particular building or particular person."

The teenager's mom, Denise Nunn, also faces charges of manufacturing an explosive device.  Police say she helped her son purchase the materials for the bombs.

NEWS 9's Rusty Surette was in Fairview Friday night.

His featured video explains why the boy's mother also faces serious charges.
