Pro-Life bill passes state committee

Posted: Updated:

State Capitol -- A pro-life bill passed the state Senate Rules Committee Wednesday with a vote of eight to zero, read a press release.

State Senator Todd Lambs, (R) Edmond, authored Senate Bill 1878, titled the Freedom of Conscience Act. The bill allows healthcare providers to refuse to take part in certain procedures, including abortions, stem cell research or euthanasia.

Employees or prospective employees who object to these procedures based on their religious beliefs would be protected under this legislation.

"Human life is a most precious gift and protecting the rights of those who protect it is vital," said Lamb in a press release. "I am encouraged by the unanimous, bipartisan vote and look forward to working with my colleagues on this bill as it advances."
