It sounds like the start of a bad joke. Four joggers went for a run around Lake Hefner last Saturday and ended up getting citations from police.  No, jogging isn't illegal here in Oklahoma City; In fact, Mayor Cornett would love for more people to take up running and get a jump start on that million pound weight loss.

Rather, those joggers were ticketed for running through a construction zone that cuts across one of the track that goes around the lake.

I interviewed one of the men who received a $167 ticket. He told me that there was no active construction going on and while the gate and signs prohibited entry, the arresting officer should have just told the group of four to go back where they came from.

Police tell me that there were numerous signs posted forbidding entry and those joggers chose to ignore them.  Even though there was no active construction, that doesn't lessen the danger to passerby.

By the way, the construction company told me that on average, 50 people jog, walk, run through that site on a daily basis.

So for all you joggers, read the sign or pay a fine.  It's not worth the run.
