'Rediscover Route 66'

Oklahomans now have the chance to voice their opinions and potentially help "rediscover Route 66."

The Oklahoma Department of Transportation and the University of Oklahoma Outreach have paired together in an effort to generate ideas and suggestions from the public concerning Route 66. The Route 66 regional planning meeting will be from 5 to 6:15 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 21 at the Multi-Activity Center, 2733 Marilyn Williams Dr. in Edmond.

Citizens and business owners in Edmond, Luther, Arcadia, Bethany, Warr Acres, Oklahoma City and other communities along the route are invited to the meeting.

Topics to be discussed include previous Route 66 community planning meetings and survey results concerning past and present economic effects of Route 66 on various communities. Strategies on how to further marketing endeavors by local businesses and stakeholders will also be discussed.

The ultimate goal is to create a greater appeal for Route 66 from visitors and members of the communities.

The continued restoration and preservation of the route will be a topic of the meeting as well.
