Early voting kicked off Friday

Early voting started Friday morning and continues until Monday.

Oklahoma's one of about two dozen states in the spotlight on Super Tuesday, allowing us to help influence who becomes the Democratic or Republican nominee. 

Doug Sanderson of the Oklahoma County Election Board said Oklahomans want to have a say in this election.  He said in Oklahoma County, 2,000 absentee ballots were already cast, and voter registrations were way up.

"We've processed just in the month of January alone over 10,000 registration transactions that gives you an indication interest is picking up," Sanderson said.

The excitement over the primary may be because, for the second time, we're part of the big Super Tuesday election.  

NEWS 9 pollster Bill Shapard said that's likely the reason candidates pay more attention to us and visit the state.  They need our votes.

"We get kind of clumped together with a whole bunch of other states and it kind of as group makes us more powerful," Shapard said.

Every county election board allows early voting, it's required by state law.  You can also vote Saturday from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. or on Monday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.
