Republican Gus Blackwell stood before the media Thursday and answered questions about former House Speaker Lance Cargill.

In the eyes of many, Blackwell was the man favored to replace Cargill in the Speaker's chair.

Blackwell announced Thursday he would not run for the position.

The reason is because Representative Blackwell, just like Cargill, is facing questions over why he failed to file property taxes on time, for the past 13 years.

NEWS 9 political analyst Scott Mitchell said he feels this latest scandal is evidence of political battle brewing between House Republicans who still support former Speaker Cargill and GOP members who want to clean the party of suspected corruption.

"Some sort of information was leaked to the press during the day when it appeared that Mr. Blackwell has secured the votes to get the nomination, so it's a great sabotage job if that's what it was," Mitchell said.
