Oklahoman Lauren Nelson ended her reign Saturday as Miss America.

Miss Michigan Kirsten Haglund was crowned Miss America 2008.

Miss Oklahoma Makenna Smith did not make it to the finals of the competition. If she had won she would have been the third consecutive Oklahoman to win the title.

The UCO graduate student has fans cheering her on from Edmond.

"They are all very close to Makenna being that she went to the same school that they all attend now," said Carol Hefner who hosted a watch party. "She's had a nice rapport with the girls over the past few months and she's made it a point to come visit them."

Smith is currently studying nursing at Oklahoma City University.
