EDMOND, Okla. -- An Oklahoma City teen was arrested this week after he allegedly injected himself with heroin in an Edmond pharmacy's rest room.

Patrick Corbett, 19, was found in the stall of a rest room at Walgreens, 185 E 33rd, police said.

Police said the teen traveled to Edmond because purchasing syringes requires a prescription in Oklahoma City.

"He went into the Walgreens on thirty-third street and bought syringes and went right into the bathroom and tried to start shooting up heroin," said Edmond police spokeswoman Glynda Chu.

The pharmacist called police after noticing Corbett had been in the rest room for more than 20 minutes.

"Our officer actually took the stall door off and found the syringe floating in the commode filled with heroin and saw where he had tried to shoot up and had blood all over him," Chu said.

Edmond officials said the city does not have an ordinance prohibiting the sale of syringes.

Oklahoma City ordinances require syringes be used only for medical purposes, Police Sgt. Paco Balderrama said.

Edmond's city manager said this issue has come up before, but the council taken no action to change the ordinance.
