The 7TH Annual Winter Quilt Show recently came to Oklahoma City. Quilts of all types were exhibited from one end of the Cox Convention Center to the other. This was the first year that there was an international entry.

Mayumi Mochizuki traveled all the way from her home in Japan just to enter her unique quilt into the show.  The materials Mayumi used to make her quilt are unique to quilting.

"This is a quilt by kimonos," explains Mayumi.

Friends and family donated kimonos of all sorts including antique ones from grandparents.

When asked how many kimonos were used in constructing her one of a kind quilt, Mayumi answered as if embarrassed, "I don't know. Too much."

The quilt show's producer Randa Parrish is impressed by how far the show has come in the past seven years.

"It started smaller. It grows every year." Parrish boasts. "The qualities of the quilts that are in the show grow every year."

Many people attending the show marvel at the complexities of the quilts and their construction. Featured artist Lola Jenkins assures many onlookers that if she can do it, so can they.

"I had never sewn before in my life prior to this." points out Jenkins. "I've actually been quilting about, not four years quite yet, but almost."

Inspiration for Lola comes to her from everywhere.

"I'm inspired by my friends. I'll see a picture of them, ‘Oh, I could do that.', or I'll see one of my grandchildren playing, ‘That's a quilt.' "
