The year 2007 will go down as the year of extreme weather for Oklahoma.

The year began with an ice storm that caused widespread damage in eastern Oklahoma. It ended with frozen conditions that caused the biggest blackout in state history.

Heavy rainfall in the spring and summer ended Oklahoma's drought, shattering records along the way and creating floods that submerged homes, floated vehicles and forced dramatic rescues.

Oklahoma members of The Associated Press voted the December ice storm as the top story of 2007.

It marked the eighth time this year that federal disaster aid was made available through a presidential declaration to either public entities or individuals in Oklahoma. No other state has ever had as many presidential disaster declarations in one year.
