The Oklahoma City Thunder are on the verge of making history.
With just one win standing between them and their first-ever NBA championship, Oklahoma City fans are buzzing ahead of Game 6 in Indianapolis, and this version of thunder is one the city hopes never ends.
Game 5 was a coming-out party for Jalen Williams, who poured in 40 points, the best playoff performance of his young career and just one point shy of his all-time high.
“That was an unbelievable performance by him, just throughout the whole game. I mean, he really was on the gas the entire night,” said Thunder head coach Mark Daigneault.
Williams continued to find his spots on the court, attacking the rim and hitting clutch jumpers to help seal the win.
“I’m just out there being aggressive. And like I said, I have a staff and teammates that allow me to do that and figure out my game and just figure out spots where I can try and be dynamic,” Williams said.
“A lot of that is just me trying to pick my spots and, you know, do what I can in order to win the game.”
Chet Holmgren made it clear how important Williams has been to the team’s playoff run.
“We saw it tonight. Not only tonight, we’ve seen it this, you know, we don’t get here without him playing as good as he’s playing. So, you know, we got to make sure he gets his credit, gets his flowers.”
Chet said Williams' work ethic and character have earned him the support of the entire team.
“You want to root for him. You want him to do good. Just because he shows up every single day, does the right things. He’s a good guy off the court, treats everybody well. He’s always respectful. And he works really hard.”
Oklahoma City flies to Indianapolis on Wednesday morning, determined to finish what they started back in October.
Game 6 is set for Thursday night, and with momentum on their side, the Thunder are just one win away from delivering a championship to their city for the first time.
