A now-former Tulsa Public Schools coach is out on bond after school district police say he punched a student in the face at a track meet.

How it started

Police say this started as a fight between students during a track meet involving Booker T. Washington and several other schools on Thursday, April 17.

Then, once school administrators broke it up, police say the coach is seen punching a student in the face.

Tulsa Public School's athletic director says that caused officials to suspend the track meet.

What happened next

Court documents say Gui Lowmack was arrested for assault and battery on a minor and aggravated assault and battery.

Lowmack turned himself in to police the following Monday and was booked into the Tulsa County Jail and released on bond.

The district attorney's office will decide whether or not to file criminal charges.

Lowmack's history with TPS

Tulsa Public Schools says Lowmack was not a full-time employee but was coaching for one of its schools this season.

TPS Statement on the incident

"We hold any individual working with or supporting Tulsa students and families to the highest of standards and expect adults to serve as exemplary role models for our young people. The individual in question was not a full-time employee of Tulsa Public Schools, but had been working as an adjunct coach this season up through Thursday, April 17, 2025.
While we are not able to share details in matters covered by employee protections or under active investigation, we are cooperating with authorities’ investigation of the incident. We will continue to prioritize the safety and well-being of our young people and team members in all of our actions and decisions as a school district."

News On 6 reached out to Lowmack on social media but have not heard back.
