Numerous businesses across the United States, including in Oklahoma, will shut their doors Monday in support of the "A Day Without Immigrants" movement.
The nationwide movement is supposed to highlight immigrant workers' contributions and their everyday impact on businesses, from restaurants to retail shops.
Several local businesses in the Oklahoma City metro, including restaurants like Cheever's Cafe and Cafe Kacao, are participating.
Good Egg Dining posted on Monday that all their restaurants will be closed on Feb. 3 in observance of the movement.
Their restaurants include Cheever's Cafe, Iron Star Barbeque, Red Primesteak, Republic Gastropub, Tucker’s Onion Burgers, Kitchen No. 324, The Drake, Barrios, and Mexican Radio.
They posted a statement on social media saying:
"Our industry, our restaurants, and our communities are built on the hard work, passion, and dedication of immigrants. They are the backbone of our kitchens, our service, and our culture. Today, we stand with them. We look forward to a future where everyone is recognized, valued, and treated as equals. Thank you for your understanding and support. We’ll see you back for regular business hours on Tuesday, February 4th."
